The Intersectionality Sociomuseology Study Group – Gender, Race and Class -SOMUS is a group of the UNESCO-ULHT Chair “Education, Citizenship and Cultural Diversity” organized as a collective of researchers from the Masters and Doctoral Programs in Museology at the Lusófona University, open to researchers from the Chair, from other higher education institutions, as well as from social organizations.

The Study Group has the support of the Department of Museology at ULHT and is part of the programs and R&D of CeiED – Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development and the FCT Project – Foundation for Science and Technology CEECIND/04717/2017.

Group OBJECTIVES

●To put on the agenda the discussion about feminism, racism and socioeconomic conditions in the context of Sociomuseology, culture and education with the UNESCO Chair “Education, Citizenship and Cultural Diversity” and CeiED.

●Reflect on the role of museums and museological and museographic initiatives in raising awareness against racism, misogyny, gender and sexuality discrimination and economic social exclusion.

●Foster actions and dialogues within the scope of inclusion and equity of gender, race and class for different audiences in interface with Sociomuseology, culture and education.

●Produce academic material (reviews, interviews and articles).

●Develop inclusive materials on the topic to raise awareness of the agenda for non-academic audiences;

●Assist in the production of anti-racist and feminist materials for the Chair and for CeiED, providing guidance and consultancy for support.

●Promote seminars, awareness-raising and training courses for external audiences

●Guarantee the protagonism of black, indigenous, gypsy, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, intersex people in the activities developed by the group in order to broaden their participation in cultural and educational contexts

●Seek partnerships with other groups, institutions, entities and researchers interested in the topic of the study group.
